Project Overview
About 2 miles of Trap Creek was badly scoured, which left very little spawning gravel and a lack of stream complexity for rearing. We restored the stream in 2 phases, starting with about 1 mile upstream, followed by the remaining mile downstream.
Implementation and Construction
Lack of access made this project unique. To increase the gravel deposits and pool/riffle ratio, large woody debris (LWD) needed to be placed in the stream. We accomplished this by “high line” logging or reverse logging. The contractor used logging techniques to lift LWD into the stream located in the canyon below. The LWD was then secured into the streambed.
Post-Construction
Annual reports during 3 years of monitoring showed all project objectives were accomplished.
